About Bourne Youth Council
Our History
Founded in 1994, Bourne Youth Council's mission has always been to enhance community engagement and support youth in the community by providing essential youth resources and funding to help achieve their goals and activities. This dedicated non-profit organization successfully sustained its mission for 26 years. However, due to the pandemic and the unfortunate passing of two key members, BYC was set to dissolve at the end of the year. It is with great pleasure and excitement to announce that in memory of its founding and former members, Bourne Youth Council has relaunched in 2023! With our mission and goals still aligned, there will be minimal changes to the structure of BYC, Inc. As we continue to transition everything over, I’d like to spend the next few weeks sharing with you (and hearing from you) the history of this incredible, selfless organization. We look forward to enhancing community engagement and have some great ideas in mind.
Bourne Youth Councils Mission Statement
The mission of our non-profit organization, BYC, is to enhance community engagement and foster a sense of togetherness by coordinating, promoting, and developing constructive and effective activities for the Bourne community. By uniting our community and leveraging the skills of its residents while sharing resources, we aim to help our youth live healthier, safer, and more responsible lives.
We strive to provide a forum for various youth resources and projects by coordinating clubs, sports, arts, culture, entertainment, scholarships, and community services. The council will identify available resources and seek volunteers from the community to bring these plans, projects, and activities to life.
Additionally, we are committed to supporting and facilitating the establishment of an effective police-youth communication and accountability system. We will promote and implement alternative intervention programs focused on violence prevention for at-risk youth. Our goal is to continually make Bourne a safe and healthy place to work, attend school, raise children, and enjoy retirement.
